Keeping Up With Your Resolutions

How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Did you make resolutions that were meaningful and realistic? Or did you stick to the same resolutions that so many of us have made year after year? Perhaps losing weight, working out more, and getting better control over your budget?

These are definitely all valid resolutions as we can all work on improving our health and managing our expenses. However, there may be other areas of your life that could benefit from positive changes in this New Year.

Resolve To Let Go
Have you been holding on to anger and feelings of regret or hurt from the last few years? Have you been harboring negative feelings towards others? The truth is that not being willing or being able to let go of your past can only hold you in place emotionally. How can you expect to move forward on to positive new relationships if you simply can’t let go of the past? All of that negativity will follow you into the New Year and new opportunities and ultimately keep you from achieving personal and professional success.

It is vital that you resolve to let go of your past and forgive those who have done emotional harm to you.

Be Open To New Things
One of the best resolutions that you can make for yourself is related to being open to new possibilities. All too often life throws new adventures our way but we are so hesitant to launch on them because we are concerned about the uncertainty of the unknown.
When it comes to making resolutions, try to shift your focus onto things that will not just help to improve your physical health (like resolving to eat better and work out more) but also things that help you to improve your emotional and mental health. Resolve to open yourself up to new ideas, new opportunities, new people, and a whole new positive you!
Perhaps you’ve wanted to go back to school? Or start a new business? What is keeping you from these grand adventures? Seize this opportunity to launch yourself into a new direction!

Be Flexible And Good To Yourself
Have you found yourself slipping in keeping up with your resolutions? Don’t beat yourself up about it. You are only human, be good to yourself! While the majority of resolutions that are made every January tend to fall by the wayside by the time that February rolls around, yours don’t have to. Perhaps you simply need to shift your resolution focus a little bit? Perhaps you were being a bit too broad with your goals?

For example, if you set the goal to lose weight – perhaps you need to shift your goals towards a healthier eating plan and a new exercise routine. Simply deciding to lose weight isn’t going to help you much unless you take the time to focus your goals on how you are going to lose that weight.

If a resolution isn’t working for you right now, for some reason, just take a look at it and see if perhaps you are being unrealistic or just a little bit too broad in your expectations of yourself.

The start of a New Year is definitely an excellent opportunity to set new resolutions, but it doesn’t need to be the only time that you set goals and resolve to do new things. Tomorrow is a new day! Start tomorrow! Start on Monday, start now! There is no wrong time to resolve to change your life, one  small goal at a time.
